Alumni Teaching Abroad Program, or in Bahasa, Program Alumni Mengajar di Luar Negeri”, is one of English Education Department of UMP’s programs for alumni to teach abroad. This program was conducted by the University aiming to make UMP well-known internationally. This program takes place in Thailand and alumni joining the program should be there around 3 months up to a year.
The program started in 2015 and the department sent two alumni, Shinta Budi Arti and Isti Awalia. This year, the Department sent another two alumni, Mujiono and Wahyu. They are teaching in Pattani region.
“The school where I and Wahyu teach was built and operates with the aid from Turkey under President Erdogan. The school has three names in three different languages. First in English the school is named Islamic Integrated School Pattani, in Thai it is Buranakarn Suksa Witya School, in Turkish it is Bogazici Okulu.” said the twenty-four-year-old man passionately.
This program is aimed to be meaningful for participants because they can get many experiences by going abroad to teach foreign students. They can bring UMP to international institutions.
“All students here are similar to Indonesian students. They are talkative when they learn English although Thai students have more difficulties speaking in English. People here are very kind with foreigners. I am grateful to Allah SWT because I am given a chance by Him to be here.” he added.
The alumni participating in the program have to teach English in secondary 1-6 grades. Those grades are the same as Indonesia, secondary 1 to 3 is similar to Junior High School and then secondary 4 to 6 is similar to Senior High School.
Based on the Muji’s experiences, the Department hope that this Program will run forth and give chance for the next alumni to join the program.
